Feedback

This was a great session by Georgia Murch on why feedback is important, what are the roadblock on giving feedback (or sometimes asking feedback), some of the techniques and perceptions around feedback. A dive into what are the challenges in sharing feedback, techniques that are being used.

Feedback should be constructive however depending on roles and organisations, it could be a complex process. People may have fear of loosing jobs, they may not be confident in what they do. There are many factors that makes a feedback process very complex and sensitive process.

Feedback Sandwich
This method is being taught in many organisations as a tool to give feedback to people. The method consists of giving a criticism wrapped in two complements.
Facts not opinions
It’s very important to differentiate between facts and opinions – just because it is true for you, doesn’t mean it is true! It is OK to say this is what you ‘personally’ think about a specific situation, but it shouldn’t be mixed with facts you are giving as part of feedback
Delivery
Feedback delivery is very important. How many times you disagreed with what they said? How many times you agreed with what they said but did not like the way they delivered it
Fight or Flight
When it comes to feedback, people are usually in 2 modes: either they fight (back) when you are giving them feedback, or they flight meaning they try to avoid the conversation if possible.
